Pantene Beautiful Lengths Campaign

This week marks the launch of Pantene’s inaugural National Donate Your Hair Week, part of Pantene’s Beautiful Lengths charity campaign in partnership with the charity Look Good…Feel Better. The Pantene Beautiful Lengths program takes place between Monday 12th and Sunday 18th of November 2012 nationwide and is the first of its kind in Australia to inspire women to grow, cut and donate their hair to be turned into real-hair wigs for women who have lost their hair due to cancer treatment.

For those who are unaware of this program, Beautiful Lengths is a charity campaign, which launched in 2006 in North America to provide natural hair turned into wigs for women who have lost their own through cancer treatment. Since 2006, a remarkable 303,998 (and still counting) ponytails have been donated! That is enough to create 24,000 real wigs, so it takes about 12 ponytails to create one wig! The campaign has spiralled to huge success and the Beautiful Lengths campaign has since been launched in the UK and Belgium, among other countries.

The launch event of Pantene’s Beautiful Lengths campaign was held on Monday 12th November down at Martin Place in Sydney and Pantene ambassadors Barney Martin and Zoe Foster led a group of 54 women who donated their hair to the campaign.

Journalist, blogger and beauty expert, Zoe was the host for the event and was on hand to offer hair styling advice and tips to participants, while expert stylist Barney Martin and his team provided complementary haircuts to all who donated their ponytails.

Barney – ‘I was so overwhelmed by the generosity of the women turned up to donate their hair to Pantene Beautiful Lengths. I’m so proud to have been part of this brilliant campaign and I hope women across Australia continue to donate and go short for summer – there’s no better reason to!’

Zoe – ‘ Being able to experience firsthand the women giving up their beautiful luscious locks to donate to Pantene Beautiful Lengths was very inspiring and humbling. I loved being able to offer them advice on their new short styles and they all left looking truly fabulous. Being part of Pantene’s campaign to support women with cancer has been as amazing experience so far and I hope lots more women decide to chop off their ponytails ready for summer.’

If you’re keen to chop your locks any time soon then now would be a fantastic opportunity not only to re-style your new hair look, but to also donate your hair for a great cause. If you do wish to pledge your ponytail, you must check the following requirements:
  • Each hair donation must be at least 8 inches or 20 cm long.
  • Hair may be coloured with vegetable dyes, rinses and semi-permanent dyes. It cannot be bleached, permanently coloured or chemically treated.
  • Grey hair is difficult to use in the wid-making process, so hair may not be more than 5% grey at the time of donation.
If you would like to participate and donate your ponytail in Pantene’s Beautiful Lengths campaign, please visit the follow site: www.beautifullengths.com.au.

Are you keen to donate your ponytail this week for Pantene's Beautiful Lengths campaign?

Dior Skinflash Radiance Booster Pen

Dior - ‘Professional "lightworks" - in a flash. Just one click and stroke of this lightweight, skin perfector instantly diminishes shadows, fine lines, and imperfections. Skin glows with new radiance. Wear it under or over foundation - or on bare skin.’

Dior Skinflash Radiance Booster Pen (A$65/1.5ml) is available in three different shades: Roseglow 001 (pink based), Candle Light 002 (yellow based) and Sun Beam 003 (dark based). The shade Candle Light 002 suits my MAC NC20 skin tone perfectly and is one of my makeup staples that I use almost every time I wear makeup. Dior Skinflash Radiance Booster Pen is a very sleek and sophisticated looking highlighter/illuminating pen which I use to highlight my brow bone, cheekbones and bridge of my nose as well as conceal my under-eye area.

Dior Skinflash Radiance Booster pen is nice and slim, so fits nicely in my makeup bag or travel bag for quick touch ups. Just a couple of clicks allows a decent amount of product for one application. At first, you need to click the pen a few times just to get the initial flow of the formula out. However, after a couple of uses, you should be able to dispense the right amount after 1 or 2 clicks. The brush fibers are soft and smooth, so this makes application of the highlighter go on smooth and streak-free. Blending the formula onto the skin is important and the in-built brush does a great job to give a natural looking glow as well as concealing dark circles without appearing too cakey or un-natural. I sometimes use my finger tips as the warmth helps to blend in the formula.

The lightweight formula contains light reflecting particles to brighten the skin complexion. To get the most out of this highlighter, I apply the formula over foundation as the formula does apply on sheer (though the formula is buildable) to give a noticeable glow to the skin. As a concealer, I apply the formula by lightly dabbing small amounts of product underneath my eye and then gently blend in the formula either before or after foundation application. The coverage is pretty good for a multipurpose highlighting/concealing pen as the formula is buildable, hence, you could apply the product on sheer or heavy.

Overall, Dior Skinflash Radiance Booster Pen is a wonderful and magical highlighting and concealing pen which instantly transforms my tired and dull complexion to a bright and glowing look. The amount of product does seem extremely meager, though you are only using a tiny amount each time, so I think it really is worth the price tag!

Have you used Dior Skinflash before? Have you used anything similar such as YSL Touche Eclat Highlighting Pen?

NEW Prada Luna Rossa Eau de Toilette

The new fragrance for men, Prada Luna Rossa was inspired by Prada's racing sailboat and team named Luna Rossa. The scent was blended by Daniela Andria and Prada Luna Rossa is described as a masculine fragrance that reinterprets traditional ingredients with agility. The scent covers a wave of aromatic freshness, conveying strength and dynamic energy with a noble and sensual hit. The top notes include Lavender alongside notes of bitter Orange, middle notes of aromatic Clary Sage and Spearmint Nanah and base notes of Ambroxan and Ambrette Absolute to give a woody amber signature scent. The bottle of Prada Luna Rossa was designed by Yves Behar who was inspired by modern, sleek and dynamic sailing boats. The design of the bottle, as you can see, projects both strength and sophistication. The fragrance Prada Luna Rossa makes an excellent Christmas gift for men who love fresh, sophisticated, woody aromatic scents.

Korres Pomegranate and Jasmine Lip Butters

Korres Lip Butters have been hitting all the right notes as my ideal lip product. The lip butters are the most popular of the Korres line and in my review you'll see why.

Korres Lip Butter in Pomegranate (L) and Jasmine (R).
Korres lip butters are rich in shea butter and rice wax which work well together to provide hydration and softness to the lips. The lip butters are also formulated with natural oils and extracts which help to soothe and condition dry lips.

The consistency is just about right and the tint is very sheer. Pomegranate Lip Butter gives a gorgeous demure coral tint, whereas Jasmine gives a beautiful gloss to the lips.  These lip butters are very easy to apply and I especially love the beautiful subtle scent of Pomegranate and Jasmine. My lips feel nourished and moisturised and look very pretty for an everyday look. My lips feel comfortable wearing and not sticky at all! These lip butters last for a few hours too which is really great as you don't need to worry about re-applying.

Korres Lip Butters (6g) retail for RRP A$18.95 at Kit Cosmetics and Mecca Cosmetica stores in Australia.

Do you use Korres Lip Butters to nourish your lips? Which Korres products would you reccomend?

Shu Uemura Powder Foundation Natural Glow Finish SPF20 PA++

Shu Uemura Powder Foundation Natural Glow Foundation with SPF20 PA++

I was initially drawn to Shu Uemura as their line of cosmetics and skincare evokes a very fresh and fun sense towards their sleek and simple packaging as well as their high-end quality formulations.

My combination/oily skin tone can never ever last whole day, with just makeup applied, without showing the slightest hint of shine along my T-zone. Hence, a light dusting of powder to the skin is one of the essential products I use to control oil and leave my skin looking matte and shine-free during most of the day. I’ve been using Shu Uemura Powder Foundation Natural Glow Finish SPF20 PA++ since I purchased this beauty a while ago and I have recently just touched pan!

Here is how Shu Uemura describes this powder:

Shu Uemura - ‘This comfortable formula enriched with a natural moisturizing ingredient recreates flawless skin texture, locking in natural colours and a finish that lasts all day long. Derived from the deep sea, this powder formula is packed with anti-sebum and sweat-proof ingredients. It serves multiple purposes as it imparts an effortless glow, covers imperfections, and protects skin with SPF 22.’

Shu Uemura Powder Foundation Natural Glow Finish SPF20 PA++ contains 13g of product and you can purchase the powder casing, which comes with an in-built mirror and sponge applicator, in the original black or white case or even one of the limited edition designs which launch every now and then during the year. I decided to purchase the black casing as it looks very sleek and won’t get so dirty as easily as the white case.

The finely milled powder can be applied directly onto the skin alone using the sponge applicator or as a mattifying powder after liquid foundation application using a large fluffy powder brush. I tend to apply this powder using a large brush as the powder controls oil very well and give my skin a nice healthy matte-finish without ever looking cakey or heavy.

I always opt for powder, which contain SPF to protect my skin from the harmful sun rays, so I’m glad this powder contains SPF 20.  The formula of this powder is water-based, as opposed to oil-based powders, which are prevalent in the beauty industry. The powder applies on evenly and I only use small amounts (i.e. lightly swirling the brush back into the pan once) for each application, so it has lasted me about 1 year until I finally hit pan!

Overall, Shu Uemura Powder Foundation Natural Glow Finish SPF20 PA++ helped to control my oily T-zone and it’s high SPF is a huge plus for this powder. The finish of this powder gives a lovely, natural and light matte finish, which suits my skin tone and type perfectly. This powder has actually been discontinued, which is really sad, so hopefully Shu Uemura will launch an equivalent or even better powder so that I could play with!

What is your holy grail powder foundation?

Paris Fashion Week – Sam McKnight for Pantene S/S ‘13

Global Stylist Ambassador, Sam McKnight, created a ‘Global Exotic’ look for the Vivienne Westwood S/S ’12 show during the Paris Fashion Week event last month. The Global Exotic hair looks features a foppish masculine quiff to Baroque inspired bouffant to soft romantic maidens using a variety of different hair textures and patterns.

Sam McKnight shares with you how to achieve the masculine quiff featured on the models at the Vivienne Westwood S/S ’13 show:

1.     Cleansing and conditioning the hair is the utmost important step to provide the perfect base for styling. Sam recommends Pantene Pro-V Aqua Light Shampoo and Conditioner, which helps to give your hair minimal weight, maximum hydration while simultaneously eliminate frizz and give hair that does not look flat. One of the great things about the Aqua Light Shampoo and Conditioner is that they are free from silicones.

2.     Apply a decent amount of Pantene Pro-V Body Builder Mousse to damp or dry hair and then blow-dry hair. I would suggest sectioning the hair and apply the mousse bit by bit for an even application.

3.     Clip away the top section of hair leaving hair in place each side from the arch of the eyebrow downwards.

4.     Apply Pantene Pro-V Intensive Damage Repair Oil into the two side sections and using a fine toothcomb to smooth out the hair pull the two side sections together and secure at the back of the head.

5.     Release the top section of hair and blow-dry using your fingers to lift the roots to give more volume.

6.     While leaving the sides in place, remove the hair elastic at the back of the head. Use Pantene Pro-V All Day Smooth Leave in Crème as a styling aid by applying the Crème to the hair using your fingers as a rake through the ends.

7.     Finally, take the top section above the slick sides and twist into a pleat forcing a quiff at the top of the head. Ensure the quiff is set in place adding Pantene Pro-V Stay Smooth Hairspray and pins as needed.

What do you think of the masculine quiff? Will you be sporting this look this season?

A fun, flirty and fuss-free Wavy Braid is a gorgeous yet simple look to suit any outfit from AM to PM! A hat or fascinator worn on the side best complements the Wavy Braid. All you need to achieve this look is a hair straightener, hairspray and bobby pins.

The Chignon

The Chignon is a beautiful and elegant look, which looks very chic and stylish! You can achieve this style with most headpieces, particularly smaller sized headpieces to show the detail of the low bun. To complete the look, all you will need is an elastic band, comb, hairspray and bobby pins.

1.     Part front section of hair and separate back section in a secure ponytail.
2.     Backcomb ponytail in large sections to create volume and spritz with hairspray. Lightly comb ponytail through to tidy up.
3.     Roll ponytail underneath to create chignon and secure in place with bobby pins and then finish with hairspray.
4.     Take half of front section and twist across back of head. Secure over chignon with bobby pins.
5.     Repeat on other side and spray with hairspray.
6.     Secure fascinator in place.

The Chignon Hair Look
The Bun

The voluminous up-do with The Bun suits well with a statement outfit and flawless makeup! Simple yet wearable throughout the day, this look is best worn with a fascinator at an angle, or with a cute dainty headband or flower. To complete the look, all you will need is an elastic band, comb, brush and bobby pins.

1.     Secure hair in tight high ponytail and spray with hairspray.
2.     Backcomb ponytail in large sections to create volume and spray with hairspray.
3.     Lightly brush ponytail through to tidy up.
4.     Grip ponytail in one hand, hold the base of ponytail and wrap ponytail around to form a bun. Secure the bun in place with bobby pins.
