Bobbi Brown BB Cream SPF35 PA+++

To be honest, I think I'm falling behind on the Beauty/Blemish Balm cream (or simply BB cream) bandwagon as I have never attempted to try any... until now. BB creams are a super convenient all-in-one one-step multitasking product combining the characteristics of skincare and makeup (i.e. moisturiser, blemish balm, primer, light foundation and SPF). These BB creams claim to provide benefits to the skin as well as an overall tint or foundation finish for a flawless look. Particular BB creams are suspected of causing breakouts (no brands will be mentioned here) and in some cases an oily T-zone after a few hours of wear (especially for people who have an oily skin type). Having a combination/oily skin type myself I never really found an interest in these BB creams and pretty much stood clear from these all-in-one products.

But! (lol, I guess you all saw this coming!) it wasn't until I was introduced to Bobbi Brown BB cream (BB BB Cream, 40ml) which claims to be specifically suited for people who have an oily skin type (yay! That’s me!). That sounds amazing doesn't it? BB Creams in general are huge in Asia and I think there is a line of BB Creams in every brand they stock over there. The BB Cream trend is slowly spreading outside Asia and so far, BB BB Cream has not yet reached Australian shores (but it will be very soon!). My friend went on holiday to Asia and I was lucky enough to receive this product from her.

I have tried Bobbi Brown Tinted Moisturiser (the previous formulation) in the past, however, unfortunately the product didn't work well for my skin type. So, despite this and after hearing about the claims of this BB BB Cream I decided to take the plunge and try this product for myself.

BB BB cream provides PA 35+++ sun protection (protection from UVA and UVB damage) and there are three shades available: Extra Light, Light and Medium to Dark. The packaging is super sleek, like all Bobbi Brown products, with a squeezable long tube and screw on lid at the base. Since the tube stands while inverted, you would probably not have much difficulty trying to use up the last few mls.

I currently have the shade Light and I'm surprised as to how well the shade blends in to give me natural looking skin (for reference my skin tone suits Chanel Claire 20, MAC NC20, NARS Fiji, Giorgio Armani 4.0 and Burberry Trench No.05). BB BB Cream is slightly yellow based and gives my skin a healthy and fresh look - my face matches my neck, which is a huge bonus! The coverage is sheer to medium and is quite buildable to provide extra coverage. I would say the finish is comparable to that of sheer foundation. I really like the fact that BB BB Cream provides more coverage than your typical Tinted Moisturiser as you wouldn’t need to bother with additional foundation to conceal any small blemishes or rosacea. Although, I must say that I do need to use concealer over my dark circles.

The formula is lightweight and very creamy which makes it very easy to evenly blend a small amount of product for each application. BB BB cream contains Vitamin E and Rice Bran Extract which makes my skin feel very hydrating yet at the same time provide a beautiful natural matte finish. The formula also contains Sucrose, Caffeine and Scutellaria extract (obtained from the mint plant variety) which helps to provide an even and clearer skin tone.

I really love the outcome of BB BB cream as it is pretty much the perfect formula for my daily morning routine, especially when I'm in a rush and don't have the time to apply moisturiser, primer, and then foundation. Rather than layering products onto my skin, I only need one formula/product to hydrate, prime and provide my skin with an even skin tone and flawless coverage.

BB BB cream lasts from 8am to 6pm and is capable of controlling the oiliness on my skin that usually develops towards the late afternoon. It does not result in flaky and dry patches on my skin and it doesn’t fade considerably towards the end of the day. My T-zone has become less shiny and I was really surprised as to how less frequently I had to blot my T-zone compared to wearing tinted moisturiser or medium-coverage foundation without powder.

Overall, I am super pleased with Bobbi Brown BB Cream as it is a brilliant multitasker which provides very high SPF of 35, hydration to the skin, less shiny skin, light-med coverage and a beautiful foundation-like finish. What more could I ask for in this product??

Bobbi Brown BB Cream (A$60/40ml) will be available in Australia in-store and online on the 12th of August 2012 and only the SPF35 version (rather SPF 35 PA+++) will be sold nationally.

Have you hoped onto the BB Cream bandwagon? Which BB Creams would you reccomend?

My Quest for Soft Fluttery Lashes

My line up of mascaras
My quest to achieve soft and fluttery natural looking lashes has opened doors to a range of drugstore to high-end beauty brands. I love wearing mascara to enhance my lashes, however, one thing I dislike about mascara is the difficulty in removing them. I tend to lose my lashes every time I try to remove mascara and so I only wear mascara occasionally during the week. My ideal mascara would have the ability of effectively separate my lashes whilst providing longer and fully defined lashes. The following is a review of my experience with a range of mascaras that are either new to the market or are long-time favourites:

Chanel Inimitable Intense Mascara
Chanel Inimitable Intense Mascara in Noir (A$55/6g): To achieve fluttery, soft and natural looking lashes with elongation and definition, Chanel Inimitable Mascara is my pick, hands down! The sleek tube with a narrow brush head applicator evenly separates and coats the lashes without any clumping what-so-ever. The mascara holds the curl and dries quickly, so I don’t end up with residual mascara below my eyes. Given that this mascara is not waterproof I am utterly amazed that it does not smudge at all. Chanel Inimitable mascara lasts all day and is very easy to remove under warm water. I highly recommend this mascara if you’re looking for naturally fluttery lashes.

Lancome Hypnose Doll Eyes Mascara
Lancome Hypnose Doll Eyes mascara (A$52/6.5ml): Hypnose Doll Eyes mascara is the first scented mascara I have ever used. The relatively soft scent of roses is a really nice characteristic of this mascara. I was a little weary about using this mascara as I have sensitive eyes, which sometimes go watery when applying particular mascaras, however, I took the plunge to test this mascara and I am happy that my eyes did not irritate. The brush applicator is in the shape of a cone and this makes application easy and ensures every single lash is nicely coated. Hypnose Doll Eyes mascara adds a good amount of length to my lashes and provides a clump-free result with no panda eyes, however, it just doesn’t hold the curl as long as Chanel Inimitable.  Hence, I always apply as little as possible so I don’t weigh my lashes. Overall, I really like the effect of Lancome Hypnose Doll Eyes Mascara as it opens up my eyes and my lashes look very natural.

Bobbi Brown Lash Glamour Extreme Lengthening Mascara
Bobbi Brown Lash Glamour Extreme Lengthening mascara (A$48/6ml): BobbiBrown Lash Glamour Extreme Lengthening mascara worked very well to create great coverage to provide thicker and longer lashes. I am really mesmerised as to how well this mascara separates my lashes whilst thickening each lash nicely from root to tip without looking clumpy or uneven. It doesn’t give me extremely dramatic lashes, however, it does do a great job in providing long lasting flirty fluttery lashes.

Clinique High Lengths Mascara
Clinique High Lengths Mascara (A$38/7ml): Clinique High Lengths mascara comes in a white tube and the brush applicator is a curved bright green comb. I like the fact that the comb always picks up sufficient product for application. The comb works magnificently well to separate each lash and coat each lash to create a soft and natural effects to the lashes. My lashes do appear beautifully longer and I really love the flutteryness of my long lashes. No clumping and no smudges! Clinique High Lengths mascara is a great mascara for everyday wear and the separating ability of the comb works a charm!

ModelCo Fibre Lash Brush on False Lashes
ModelCo Fibre Lash Brush on False Lashes (A$48): ModelCo Fibre Lash Brush on Flase Lashes Mascara is a dual end mascara with ‘black extension mascara’ in one end and ‘lash fibres’ on the other end. The ModelCo Lash Fibre mascara in the photo is a sample-sized version that I received as a gwp from a magazine. To apply, the extension mascara is used first so that the lash fibres adhere to the lashes and then a second coat of extension mascara goes on to give lashes extreme length and definition. I really love the look of my lashes and very surprised as to how long they look. ModelCo Lash Fibre mascara provides a dramatic intense look to the lashes and it doesn’t smudge at all! I highly recommend this mascara if you want dramatic lashes.

Physicians Formula Organic Wear 100% Natural Origin Jumbo Lash Mascara
Physicians Formula Organic Wear 100% Natural Origin Jumbo Lash Mascara in shade Ultra Black Organics (A$24.95/7.5g)*: PhysiciansFormula Organic Wear mascara stands out very well among my long line of black tubed mascaras! The bright green leaf design of the mascara reflects on the fact that the formula is made using 100% natural ingredients. The mascara is formulated with OrganiSoy to moisturise and nourish the lashes and Eco-Olive to protect the lashes from the harsh environmental elements. The brush applicator of this mascara is really huge and does seem a little difficult to reach lashes in the corners of the eyes, however, the trick is to use the very tip of the brush to make application easy.  This mascara holds the curl very well and a few strokes to the lashes doesn't weight them down, however, I noticed this mascara does transfer slightly to the bottom of my eyes. Being non-waterproof, I guess this is expected anyway.

Overall, there are a few favourites of mine that I have mentioned and ultimately my ideal mascara is Chanel Inimitable Intense Mascara for soft and naturally looking fluttery lashes and I have to give ModelCo Fibre Lash Brush on False Lashes as my go-to mascara for dramatic and intense looking lashes.

Which mascara is your holy grail?

May Bellabox: Pamper Yourself, Pamper Your Mum

My May Bellabox has arrived with the theme 'Pamper Yourself, Pamper Your Mum', to celebrate Mother's Day. Here is a list of the products in my May Bellabox:

EmerginC Hydra Repair Capsules, 4 capsules worth A$13.90
(40 capsules per pack A$139)  (full size A$2)
Eau Thermale Avene Ystheal+ Emulsion, sample size 5ml worth A$10.30
(full size 30mL A$61.95)
Eau Thermale Avene Eluage Eye Contour Cream, sample size 2ml worth A$8.50
(full size 15mL A$63.95)
Bobbi Brown Lash Glamour Extreme Lengthening Mascara, sample size 3mL worth A$24 (full size 6mL A$48)
Savior Faire Lipstick in Opulence, sample size 1.2 g worth A$16.50
(full size 3.5g  A$48)
Sebastian Professional Range, sample sachets 3x10ml, conditioner, shampoo and masque from the Penetraitt range for strengthening and repair (full size products from A$34)

May Bellabox Total worth ~A$75

The May Bellabox was very interesting as there was a mix of cosmetics, haircare and skincare. It's great that there were a mix of different products for five different brands. I am super excited that there was a Bobbi Brown Lash Glamour Extreme Lengthening mascara as I received this same sample in my previous Glossybox and absolutely love it! It not only lengthens my lashes as it claims but it also separates and dries up quickly to give me naturally looking fluttery lashes.

The second cosmetic product is a miniature Savior Faire Lipstick in Opulence- a dark chocolate shade. This shade is the darkest shade I have ever worn and it will be the last time I will wear it. It's just too dark for my light skin tone and doesn't suit me at all unfortunately.

There were a few skincare products, namely Eau Thermale Avene Ystheal+ Emulsion and Eluage Eye Contour Cream. I have tried samples of Eau Thermale Avene toner and cleanser that I received in my Glossybox (again!) and really loved how gentle the products were to my skin. The emulsion and eye cream sound great to add to my skincare regime. EmerginC Hydra Repair Capsules were another skincare product sample that I received. I don't think I will use these, so off they go to mum!

Now, last but not least, I received generous sachet samples of Sebastian Professional shampoo, condition and masque from the Penetraitt range. The Penetraitt range aims to provide strengthening and repair to weak and damaged hair. This sounds like something my hair definitely needs!

All in all, I'm pleased with the variety of deluxe samples I received this month. I'm particularly happy with the Bobbi Brown mascara I received as I really loved the look it provided to my lashes. This mascara tube will be my back up as I'm still using the one I received with my Glossybox.

What are your thoughts with the May Bellabox? What did you receive in yours?

xx Rose

Review: Bobbi Brown Marrakesh Chic Collection Rich Color Eye Shadow

This Autumn, Bobbi Brown has launched the new Marrakesh Chic Collection in Australia with new and limited edition shades of smoky and shimmery eye shadows and berry lip colours which were inspired by her trip to Morocco, capturing the beautiful rich colours and bohemian vibe of the country.

Bobbi Brown- ‘A few years ago, I travelled to Morocco with my husband for our anniversary. It was an amazing trip and I was inspired by so much that I saw there, especially the rich, earthy colors that dominated the cityscapes and the rural vistas that we travelled through. As soon as I got home I started developing ideas for a seasonal collection featuring a new eye shadow, based on what I had seen and experienced there.’

The Marrakesh Chic Collection features 4 new lip color shades: Creamy Lip Color in Pale Plum (soft rose), Rich Lip Color in Desert Rose (heather rose), Lip Color in Desert Plum (rich berry, limited edition) and Metallic Lip Color in Violet Glaze (bright pink orchid, limited edition) and 8 new and limited edition Rich Color Eye Shadows in Rich Slate (deep silver grey), Pink Silk (heather pink), Wine (brown plum), Rich Kashmir (slate brown),  Coffee Bean (rich brown), Royale (rich purple), Desert Lily (light violet) and Sand Dune (pale silver grey).

Top L-R: Wine, Rich Kashmir, Rich Slate, Coffee Bean Bottom
L-R: Desert Lily, Sand Dune, Pink Silk, Royale

Bobbi Brown eye shadows have always enthralled me with their wide variety of shades and finishes that I was utterly amazed that they released the Rich Color Eye Shadow with a new eye shadow formula. The formula of these new eye shadows is a hybrid powder-to-cream eye shadow which gives a sheer wash of intense color and a satin finish. These eye shadows have been claimed to maintain their color intensity and last for 12 hours.

I have the Rich Color Eye Shadow in Sand Dune, one of the lighter and common base shades in the range, and I am seriously impressed with this eye shadow! The formulation is unique and the quality and overall staying-power is fantastic! Sand Dune is an intensely pigmented oyster grey shade which applies on smooth and gives a beautiful shimmery silky satin finish. I sometimes apply Sand Dune to the inner corners of my eyes, along the lower lash line or as an all-over eye shadow. Sand Dune is a versatile shade that it compliments almost all other eye shadows I own to create a gorgeous smoky eye. I have worn this eye shadow a few times for up to 10 hours and at the end of the day there were no signs of creasing or smudging. The eye shadow just stays put, didn’t budge nor fade/smear.

Bobbi Brown Rich Color Eye Shadow has a unique formula which provides a beautiful and long lasting finish with outstanding results. The Rich Color Eye Shadow line is limited edition and I really hope this new formula will be seen again in future with a wider range of shades available.

Bobbi Brown Rich Color Eye Shadow retails for A$48, Creamy Lip Color, Rich Lip Color, Lip Color and Metallic Lip Color retails for A$44. The Marrakesh Chic Collection is available online and on counters.

What are your thoughts on the new Marrakesh Chic Collection? Which Rich Color eye shadow shade would you love to try?

February Glossybox: Valentine's Edition

I usually receive my Glossybox around the 20th of each month, however, this month I received my February Glossybox earlier than usual as it was a Valentine's Edition Glossybox which was advertised to be sent out before Valentine's Day. This month's goodies were housed in a hot pink Glossybox (rather than the usual light pink) to add to the Valentine's Day theme.

The February Glossybox is themed 'Perfectly, Passionately, Pink'.

Here is what I received in my Glossybox:
February Glossybox
Bobbi Brown Lash Glamour Extreme Lengthening Mascara, sample size 3ml worth $24 (full size 6ml rrpA$48)
Jane Iredale Tantasia Self Tanner, sample size ~5ml worth $2 (full size 124ml rrpA$54)
Proactiv Deep Cleansing Wash, sample size 60ml worth $5 (full size 475ml rrpA$39.95)
Star and Rose Floral Wonderland Energency Nail Files (price not stated)
Polished London Nail Enamel in Fuschia, full size 10ml rrpA$7.99

February Glossybox Total worth ~$ 39

The beauty samples included in the February Glossybox suited the 'Perfectly, Passionately, Pink' theme as there were products to help me acheive 'extreme lengthening' lashes, the 'perfect' tan, 'perfectly' shaped and pretty in pink nails.

I don't use self tanning products so the Jane Iredale Tantasia will go to my friend. I haven't used Proactiv before and I'm sure the brand has been advertised for people who have acne or sensitive skin. I will give this a go, though I'm still a little hesitant as I have heard that Proactiv wasn't suitable for most people.

I'm really glad that there was a Bobbi Brown mascara included in my box as I have never tried Bobbi Brown mascaras before. I absolutely love their liquid foundations, highlighters, blushers and lipglosses, though for some reason, I never came across their mascara.

The mini nail files are so cute they remind me of Bloom Cosmetics version of mini nail files. They are small enough to fit neatly in my purse and the design looks so cute!

I haven't heard of Polished London before, so it's interesting to see that I could try something new from a brand I have not been exposed to. The shade I received is called Fuschia and I believe the other shade that some people received in their Glossybox was called Bitten Red. I will definitely apply Fuschia to my nails very soon and do a nail of the day post!

All in all, I love how Glossybox decided to house the beauty samples is a hot pink box and that there were also heart lollies to add to the Valentines theme. If only the regular Glossybox was hot pink! I'm glad that there was more than one product I liked and that there was a mix of makeup and skincare products.

What did you receive in your February Glossybox?

Introducing... November Australian Glossybox!

After two months in the running, Australian beauty sampling subscription service Beauty Box has now completely merged with global market leader Glossybox. Glossybox has been successful since they released their first edition Glossybox in May 2011 in the UK.

Glossybox Australia is a subscription service which offers 5 deluxe sized samples from high-end and niche brands for a fee of A$14.95 per/month.

From the month of November, Glossybox brings you the same brands associated with Beauty Box  (Bio-Oil, Biotherm, Bobbi Brown, Calvin Klein Fragrances, Clinique, Essie, Garnier, John Frieda, Jurlique, Marc Jacobs Fragrances, Playboy Fragrances, Sally Hansen, Shiseido, Shu Uemura, Thalgo and Yves Saint Laurent) PLUS the following new additions: Illamasqua, Auscreen and Australis Cosmetics.

Glossybox has a new loyalty program where you could accumulate GlossyDots which you could redeem for a free Glossybox. Click here to read more about how you could earn GlossyDots.

Beauty Box has tipped the scales towards the unpleasant side of things which have been reflected from the feedback and reviews received from their September and October boxes.

So, the question is: Is Glossybox a keeper or will the November box be the last??

Well, lets have a look at the contents of my November Glossybox...

The packaging of Glossybox is exactly the same as the original Glossybox from the UK, however, the design on the exterior packaging has red Glossybox logos rather than the original baby pink logos.  Inside the parcel is my Glossybox and you can see that the packaging is just beautiful! I love the attention to detail and I like that the box can be re-used for storage. The Glossybox is actually larger than both Beauty Box and Bellabox.

November Glossybox

The November Glossybox included a list of products included and a little description detailing each product. A total of 5 products plus a small bag of jelly beans were included in my box.

Jurlique Purely Age-Defying Ultra Firm and Lift Cream, 5ml worth A$9 (full size 50ml rrpA$90)
Age-Defying Ultra Firm and Lift Cream is a new release product from Jurlique. The cream is quite lovely and gentle to the skin. Despite being a cream targeted to mature skin, I would still use this deluxe sample just to keep my skin moisturised.

Also included in my Glossybox is a voucher card which offers 15% off any products in-store. However, the voucher is valid until November 30th 2011. The Glossyboxes were meant to be sent out mid-November, however, a delay had caused the Glossyboxes to arrive two weeks late. The voucher is now of no use and I'm not too sure if the crew at Glossybox will make-up for this.

Bobbi Brown Cleansing Oil, 15ml worth A$4.50 (full size 200ml rpA$60)

I've got a bottle of Bobbi Brown Cleansing Oil already, so this cute little bottle would be great for travel! Cleansing oils are great at removing makeup effortlessly. Like they say in Science, 'Like dissolves like', so that's why cleansing oils work so well to remove makeup!

Bio-Oil Treatment Skincare Oil (full size 60ml rrpA$14.95)
I've never used Bio-Oil before and thought it was a cleansing oil at first. Then I wondered why Glossybox would include two cleansing oils in the one box! Bio-Oil is in fact a treatment oil which aims to heal scars, stretch marks and uneven skin tones. I'm surprised to receive a full sized bottle! Sounds interesting and worth trying!

Essie Summer Nail Colour in Meet Me At Sunset (Essie Summer Nail Colour Collection), 5ml worth A$6.30 (full size 15ml rrpA$18.95)
I beleive some people received different shades of the Essie nail polish from the Summer Nail Colour Collection. The mini Essie bottle is so cute and I would much prefer using mini sized nail polishes as the larger size seems to dry out before I even get the chance to use it all up.

Meet Me At Sunset is an intense and vibrant orange with a very subtle pink opalescent sheen and it really does go well on my nails this summer. Heading towards Summer, even though it feels like Summer in Spring, I'm starting to pick up bright nails, so I will be seen wearing this shade.

Mirenesse SD Forever Gloss in Hot Kiss (full size 14g rrpA$39.95)

I've never really had an interest in Mirenesse, so I wasn't too excited to see a Mirenesse gloss in my box. The shade I received was Hot Kiss which looks like a chocolaty brown maroon shade on the tube, however, when swatched it looks like a gorgeous dark berry/purple shade. Despite how pretty this dark shade of lip gloss is I was immediately put off from the smell! It smelt like sweet soap! Not at all great!

November Glossybox total worth ~A$75 !

Overall, I'm quite pleased with the contents in my November Australian edition Glossybox as I would use every single one of products included, besides from the Mirenesse Gloss. The pink jelly beans was a surprise to celebrate the launch of Glossybox (I think the pink jelly beans have now been consumed by my partner!). The contents in my Glossybox included two full sized products and three deluxe sized products which ranged from lips, nails, to skincare, so I think that's a good selection of products included. I've noticed there has been variations in shades and products for the launch edition of Glossybox, so I assume this Glossybox has been tailored to suit my beauty profile I provided on their site.

Despite a delay in the shipment of the November Glossybox I will still give Glossybox another chance to see what is to come in December's Glossybox. Besides, the packaging is just too pretty and cute!

So, the answer to my question is...YES! GlossyBox is a keeper for me (for now) and I look forward to the December box which hopefully will arrive not too long from today.
